Terry Lee Flenory was born on February 6, 1951 in Gainesville, Florida. Terry attended the University of Florida where he played football and earned a BA in political science in 1973.
Following his graduation from college, Terry served as a legislative assistant for U.S. Representative John Mica from 1973-1975. In 1975, Terry was hired by the Department of Defense as an intelligence analyst working on the Vietnam War secret project known as Project Pandora.
In 1977, Terry left the DoD to become a private investigator specializing in forensic casework and insurance fraud investigations. Over the next two decades, he worked as a deputy sheriff in Florida and Georgia before becoming the interim police chief for Florala, Georgia in 1998. In 2000, Terry was elected to his first term as mayor of Florala and served until 2003 when he resigned to run for governor of Georgia.
